Amanda Waller Is Now DC’s Worst Villain

Until recently, Amanda Waller was a grey figure in the black-and-white world of DC Comics. While the Suicide Squad boss did many morally questionable things, it could be argued her actions were for the greater good. However, the woman known as “The Wall” crossed a line in Titans: Beast World Tour – Atlantis, becoming an undeniable supervillain.

Amanda Waller’s Rubicon came in “Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Back In The Water…” Written by Frank Tieri, with art by Valentine De Landro, the story focused on the effort to capture Black Manta. The archenemy of Aquaman was one of many people transformed by the Starro drones created by a transformed Beast Boy. This left Captain Boomerang, Deadeye, and Vixen trying to capture Black Manta, who had changed into a giant stingray.

The mission was a success, with Deadeye managing to remove the Starro drone from inside of Black Manta. This left the villain indebted to Deadeye, who wanted to recruit him to a team devoted to bringing down Amanda Waller. It was a goal they both shared, even ignoring Black Manta’s assertion that he always paid his debts.

Unfortunately for the new team, Captain Boomerang was a plant, and reporting on their activities to Amanda Waller. This is not surprising, given Waller’s paranoia and Captain Boomerang’s treacherous nature. What was a surprise, however, was what “The Wall” was doing when Captain Boomerang reported to her.

Waller is Turning Heroes Into Starro Drones

Previous issues of Titans: Beast World showed how Amanda Waller manipulated the crisis to benefit her anti-hero agenda. The final page of this story shows that she is now intentionally infecting captive heroes, like Dolphin, with Starro drones. This is transforming them into uncontrollable monsters.

Apparently, it is not enough for Amanda Waller that many heroes are already falling prey to the Beast Boy Starro. Such is her apparent madness that she must further prime the pump to turn the public against their saviors. This marks her as a true villain, who will do anything to further her goals, even if it destroys the Earth.

Titans: Beast World Tour – Atlantis is now available at comic shops everywhere.
