Dreamer’s New Power Is More Curse Than Blessing

Nia Nal, aka Dreamer, is notable as one of the few DC characters created for a TV show who migrated into comics. An alien hero, Nia has considerable powers tied to the realm of the Dreaming. Recent events in the comics have boosted her powers even further, but one ability is more of a hinderance than a benefit.

Nia’s new powers are profiled in Titans: Beast World Tour – Metropolis #1. Written by Arrowverse actor Nicole Maines alongside Steve Orlando and illustrated by Fico Ossio, the comic reveals that Dreamer now has prophetic daydreams. Previously, Nia’s ability to see the future only worked when she was asleep. Unfortunately, these new visions are a double-edged sword.

Dreamer’s waking visions are too real

Dreamer's New Power Explained

As Nia explains to her friend, Yvette, the visions she now has while awake are frighteningly realistic. Indeed, they are so real that she often cannot tell the difference between the dream and reality. This is a major inconvenience in day to day life, with Nia responding to events that have not happened yet, like an approaching waiter. It is even worse in regards to upcoming disasters, which play with Nia’s anxiety issues.

In this there is a dramatic irony. Before her recent upgrade, Nia Nal’s visions were typically vague and based around dream logic. This made them difficult to utilize, as she also had no way to control when she had a prophetic dream. Even after Nia gained enough fine control of her powers to have lucid dreams about specific events, she still had trouble interpreting them.

Now, Nia has the opposite problem. Her visions of the future are perfectly accurate, but she struggles to avoid jumping at shadows. Thankfully, Nia has some super friends (including Superman Jonathan Kent himself) to help her keep one foot in reality.

Titans: Beast World Tour – Metropolis #1 is now available in comic shops everywhere.
