BOOM! Studios has shared a first look at December’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #115, the upcoming fifth entry in the 12-part “Darkest Hour” story arc.

MMPR #115 hails from writer writer Melissa Flores, artist Simona Di Gianfelice, colorist Raúl Angulo, assistant colorist Jose Enrique Fernández, and letterer Ed Dukeshire. The issue features a main cover by Taurin Clarke, as well as variant covers by Björn Barends, Goñi Montes, Clarke, Adam Gorham, and Natacha Bustos. In addition to the covers, BOOM! has released five fully-lettered preview pages at this time.

An official synopsis for MMPR #115 reads as follows: “In something out of a nightmare, Tommy comes face to face with pure evil and watches in horror as the unthinkable happens to his friends … Dark Specter’s power grows and spreads, pitting Zord-against-Zord as the corrupted Rangers battle their loved ones. As Mistress Vile begins to regret what she’s unleashed, two other villains may be the key to the Rangers’ only hope, and the last resort for seeking answers within the Morphin Grid!!”

What is MMPR’s ‘Darkest Hour’ event about?

The “Darkest Hour” arc kicked off in August’s MMPR #111. The yearlong event promises to “forever change the Power Rangers universe.” In it, the villainous Mistress Vile has gained control of the Morphin Grid while Dark Specter’s infection spreads throughout the universe. The Rangers, meanwhile, have been stranded and separated from one another. The Drakkon Rangers show up to lend them a hand. However, they “may not be the help [our heroes] were hoping for.”

“Darkest Hour” is one of many stories commemorating the Power Rangers franchise’s 30th anniversary. Some of BOOM!’s other celebratory comics include the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 30th Anniversary Comic Special, Ranger Academy, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return — the latter of which is co-written by original Pink Ranger Amy Jo Johnson.

Additionally, the anniversary television special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always premiered on Netflix earlier this year — as did the new series Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. Cosmic Fury marks the 30th overall season of the Power Rangers TV series. It also acts as a direct follow-up to the two-season Power Rangers Dino Fury.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #115 goes on sale Wednesday, December 27 from BOOM! Studios.
