Spider-Punk Rocks Out on Trippy Foil Variant Cover

Marvel Comics has revealed artist Ian Bertram’s variant cover for the first issue of next year’s Spider-Punk relaunch.

Earlier this month. Marvel announced that writer Cody Ziglar and artist Justin Mason would be returning to Earth-138 for a new four-issue limited series starring Hobie Brown and the Spider-band. The debut issue will ship with a Foil Variant Cover by Bertram — depicting Hobie in the artist’s signature, trippy style.

What to expect from Spider-Punk’s new series

Ziglar and Mason’s new four-part series is due to launch late this coming February. It serves as a direct follow-up to their previous Spider-Punk series, which itself ran for five issues in 2022. That limited series — which marked the punk-rock Spider-Man variant’s first solo title — was collected in the trade paperback Spider-Punk: Battle of the Banned earlier this year. (The collection was originally supposed to be titled “Banned in DC,” a nod to the iconic Bad Brains track of the same name.)

An official synopsis for 2024’s Spider-Punk #1 reads as follows: “ENCORE! YOU WANTED MORE! In a world without Norman Osborn, Spider-Punk reigns! This ain’t no victory lap though — as Hobie Brown and team try to rebuild society, Justin Hammer & Doctor Otto Octavius have other plans … like introducing the world to the Spider-Slaying Sentinels!”

“It feels so friggin’ cool to dive back into Earth-138 with Justin and explore the world of Hobie and the Spider-band even more!” Ziglar told IGN. “There’s some new additions to the Spider-Punk roster, some real dope villains, and some other cool stuff I don’t wanna spoil … but absolutely cannot wait for folks! And yes, there’ll 100% be a Spider-Punk Playlist Vol 2!”

Spider-Punk #1 goes on sale February 28, 2024 from Marvel Comics. The issue features a main cover by Takashi Okazaki.
