DC Announces New Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Series

2021 is shaping up to be an eventful year for Supergirl fans. The CW Supergirl series may be coming to an end in a few months, but a new actress, Sasha Calle, has already been cast as Supergirl in the standalone Flash movie. And this summer, fans will once again see Kara Zor-El headline her own solo comic book series. DC has just shared the first details for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Woman of Tomorrow finds Kara during a period of self doubt in her life. But before Kara can hang up the red cape for good, she meets a mysterious alien girl who gives her some much-needed purpose. Whoever this girl is, she claims that her world has been destroyed and wants those responsible brought to justice. That’s why Kara joins the girl on a mission to track down the criminals. Also coming along for the ride is Krypto, Kal-El’s superpowered dog. The series’ announcement is light on details about the enemies this trio will face on their journey. But it looks like Kara’s Kryptonian superpowers won’t be enough to stop them, because the first issue’s cover shows her wielding a sword.

The new series will run for eight issues and comes from writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely. Currently, King is three issues into his Batman/Catwoman run and he is also working on a Rorschach prequel series for DC’s Black Label imprint. Evely is known for her work on Sandman Universe: The Dreaming.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1 will hit comic book stores on June 15. You can check out Evely and Mat Lopes’ cover for the first issue below.
