The Guardians of the Galaxy had retired to Halfworld, as Peter Quill and Gamora finally embraced their love. However, the universe still needed saving. Peter and Rocket answered the call to action and formed a new Guardians team. Unfortunately, their latest enemies were the Greek pantheon; which had been reborn as vengeful cosmic gods. Star-Lord saved the day by detonating a bomb on New Olympus. But that action also cost Peter his life.
In Superhero Hype’s exclusive preview for Guardians of the Galaxy #3, Al Ewing and artist Nina Vakueva take the story back to Halfworld, where Gamora, Drax, and Groot anxiously await Peter and Rocket’s return. Unfortunately, Rocket has to be the one to tell them that Peter isn’t coming home. Chris Sprouse, Belen Ortega, and Juann Cabal also illustrated pages in this issue.
BTW, for the non-comic book fans out there: Groot is currently more loquacious than his MCU counterpart.

Here’s the official description from Marvel.
“The Guardians saved the Galaxy – at great and terrible cost. And now, they have to break the news… to the Guardians. Four artists tell three stories of two bonds broken, one born again…and the birth of the West Spiral Arm Guardians!“
