WTF: Transformers Will Team Up With My Little Pony in Crossover Comic
In a bizarre twist of fate, two iconic and completely disparate Hasbro franchises will cross paths in an upcoming comic event. IDW Publishing has announced that it’s pairing Transformers and My Little Pony for a new four-issue miniseries.
Simply titled My Little Pony/Transformers, the series will bring the war between the Autobots and Decepticons to the ponies’ homeland of Equestria after Queen Chrysalis miscasts a spell that interferes with a Cybertronian Spacebridge. With this, Optimus Prime recruits the land’s four-legged inhabitants to help fend off Megatron and his acolytes.
My Little Pony/Transformers is being handled by a stacked creative team that includes writers James Asmus, Ian Flynn, and Sam Maggs. They’ll work alongside artists Casey W. Coller, Jack Lawrence, Sara Pitre-Durocher, Priscilla Tramontano, and Tony Fleecs. Additionally, Fleecs will provide the cover art four all four issues, which will be released on a weekly basis.
The book is sure to raise a few eyebrows within both the Transformers and My Little Pony fandoms. However, IDW’s editor-in-chief, John Barber, sounds thrilled for it to finally hit shelves. In fact, he revealed that the project has been in the works for a while.
“Teaming Transformers and My Little Pony has been a dream we’ve had for a long time,” said Barber. “We’re all really excited to see this mashup of characters by a mashup of creators who are honoring the legacy of both universes…and doing it in the most bonkers, fun way imaginable!”
This won’t be the first Transformers crossover that IDW is planning this year. Next month, they’ll launch Transformers vs. The Terminator, which still sounds a lot more believable than this latest announcement.
My Little Pony/Transformers #1 arrives on May 6. You can check out three covers in the gallery below. Will you be checking out the series’ first issue? Let us know in the comment section!
