As soon as The Suicide Squad hits theaters in 2021, James Gunn will become the first director who has helmed a movie both in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe. The Guardians of the Galaxy director is now focusing on his DC project, which is starting production. Nevertheless, he shared a scrapbook chronicling his work so far on the Guardians of the Galaxy film series that he got from Kevin Feige, Lou D’Esposito and Victoria Alonso at Marvel Studios.
“Starting production on The Suicide Squad, I received perhaps the coolest & sweetest start-of-production gift ever, along with a note of how excited they are for the movie from Kevin, Lou, Victoria, Mary & Jonathan at Marvel Studios.” Gunn wrote. “They made me this incredible scrapbook of our journey so far on Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s a thick tome packed with memories that brought a tear to my eye.”

The versatile artist went on to add that Marvel and DC can benefit from each other’s success. He then invited fans of both sides to enjoy the things they have in common, rather than focusing on the differences.
“As I’ve said so many times, at the end of the day, Marvel & DC fans have a lot more in common than they do not. I am now & have been for almost all my life, both,” Gunn added. “Maybe you like one more than the other – that’s cool – but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy them all or that you have to tear the other down… I know I & my partners at both Marvel & DC believe what’s good for one studio is generally good for all: spurring each other on daily with heartfelt, spectacular & innovative entertainment that keeps audiences around the world loving movies based on or inspired by sequential art… Let’s go, team(s).”
The Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 6, 2021. After that, he’ll return to Marvel with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Do you agree with James Gunn’s words? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
