Death in comics is always something to take lightly. But if a character’s “demise” is handled well enough, it can still manage to resonate with readers. This winter, it looks like someone from the Marvel Universe is about to kick the bucket, and a hodgepodge of superheroes will have to figure out who the culprit is. Via CBR, Marvel has shared a new teaser for their new Incoming! event that shows several gathered around an unseen corpse.
This new promo shows the entire Fantastic Four and a handful of Avengers (Iron Man, Valkyrie, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther) standing in a morgue. In the center is a dead body lying on a table and covered by a sheet. At this point, it’s not even clear if the body belonged to one of their fellow heroes. However, this particular assortment of characters wouldn’t be paying their respects if the person wasn’t important to them. Whoever he or she is, it’s clear that the heroes have a whodunit on their hands.

It’s also worth noting that the image of the heroes is encased in a large puzzle piece. Additionally, the teaser asks readers, “Can you solve the puzzle before the heroes of the Marvel Universe?” This suggests that the publisher is going to offer more clues in the months leading up to Incoming!’s December start date. Last month, Marvel kicked off the event’s marketing campaign with another teaser displaying the white silhouette of an unknown character. The silhouette contained the caption, “One will unite them!” Marvel editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski has also teased that the event “sets the course of what you’ll see in the Marvel Universe in the years to come.”
