Following on from the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, the next X-Men movie is expected to serve as a building block for the MCU’s next phase. In a recent interview, Kevin Feige hyped up the upcoming mutant saga in the franchise before teasing plans for a slew of never-before-seen X-Men projects in the near future.
Kevin Feige says MCU has ‘sagas upon sagas’ of new X-Men stories to tell
While headlining the Disney Worldbuilders panel at D23, the Marvel Studios president suggested that MCU fans can expect multiple X-Men storylines to receive the big screen treatment after Avengers: Secret Wars.
“Having 85, almost 90 years of comic book history, there’s so many stories yet to tell,” Feige noted, as per Murphy’s Multiverse. “We announced a very young, new cast for a property called X-Men the other day. And that’s great, because there’s been 10 great X-Men movies, [but] there can be 100 more.”
He continued, “There’s sagas upon sagas with these comics that haven’t been told yet. And that’s great because the stories that inspired me to want to make these kinds of movies haven’t been told yet. I’m quite excited about doing them.”
Kevin Feige’s statements about future X-Men projects seem to align with the recently announced cast of the much-awaited Jake Schreier-helmed movie. The MCU reboot will feature a relatively young team of mutants. The confirmed cast members include Maya Boyd as Storm, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Sadie Sink will be reprising her Spider-Man: Brand New Day role of Jean Grey in the film.
Despite Feige’s promise, Marvel has yet to officially announce any X-Men movies except Schreier’s reboot, which is currently on track to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
