Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 Would Change How Fans See MCU History

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man series creator and showrunner, Jeff Trammell, shared major details about the upcoming season of the show. He indicated that the sophomore chapter of the popular Disney+ series might alter the way Marvel fans view the MCU canon.

Jeff Trammell teases more MCU events changing in Spider-Man Season 2

Trammell said that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 can include reinterpretations of major MCU events. “I think there’s definitely a chance of that,” Trammell began, adding, “One thing is, we have to see how Civil War plays out without Spider-Man. So it’s fun to have those moments to kind of ground us and tell us where we are in the timeline of things, even though we are in a different universe” (via DiscussingFilm).

The screenwriter continued, “So anytime that we can do that and kind of like give a moment for a fan to say, ‘oh, I get it, this is what’s supposed to happen, this is what’s happening here,’ I think, you know, just rewards the audience as well as like anyone who wants to go back and do a rewatch.”

This makes sense, as Trammell points out, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man isn’t part of the MCU’s sacred timeline, even though it is part of the broader MCU multiverse. Accordingly, what has happened in the main MCU can also take place in the parallel universe, albeit differently. In fact, the initial plans for the show had it as part of the sacred timeline, before Peter’s introduction in the film Captain America: Civil War, effectively serving as his origin story. However, these plans later changed.

Despite this, the animated show’s take on Spider-Man began in much the same way as his MCU counterpart, though there are glaring differences. Most significantly, Norman Osborn serves as Peter’s mentor instead of Tony Stark, who fills that role in the MCU. Given what Trammell said, these reinterpretations will likely continue in Season 2, which comes out in January 2027.
