Filming a thriller inside one house sounds simple on paper, but the production quickly proved otherwise. Greta Lee says The Last House shoot combined three notoriously difficult elements. What started as a seemingly contained production turned into an unusually demanding experience for the cast and crew.

Greta Lee described the setup as deceptively easy during an interview with Collider, recalling the crew’s running joke that a single location and small cast should make the movie a breeze. Instead, the production tested everyone, particularly because the story required extensive work with water and child actors.
The actress summed up the unusual combination by referencing an old Hollywood saying, “Nothing is harder than working with animals, babies, and water.” The production managed to involve all three. Lee said the experience differed from previous projects that had demanded motorcycle work, harnesses, stunts, and physical training because this challenge required a completely different kind of endurance.
Lee said, “I mean, our running joke was like one house, one location, small cast, like how hard could this actually be? And yeah, it was challenging for sure. But I have to say that having done other movies that involved stunts and training, and you know motorcycles, harnesses, and a lot of running. This one was different because we were working with kid actors. There’s this old Hollywood saying – nothing is harder than working with animals, babies, and water. And we had all three of them. But I am genuinely pleased that I get to walk away having learned so much.”
The water work ultimately changed Lee’s relationship with it. Rather than leaving her eager to stay dry, the experience taught her to remain comfortable in water for extended periods. She even joked that the unexpected lesson improved her vacations, saying, “I have a whole new relationship with water. Like, I can just be in water for long periods of time. It has completely changed my perspective. My vacations are better. Me and the ocean, we are good now.”
That demanding shoot serves a fitting backdrop for The Last House, which Netflix now streams. Louis Leterrier directs the sci-fi thriller, which follows a family trapped inside their house as their food and supplies run low while a mysterious danger keeps them locked in. Lee plays Ann, with Wagner Moura as her husband, Jason. Speaking to Netflix Tudum, Lee said the survival angle hooked her right away. She grew up loving stories that throw unexpected twists into survival situations and saw the movie as a chance to explore what happens when a place meant to feel safe suddenly becomes a cage.
The cast also includes Riley Chung, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Gabriel Barbosa.
