Sadie Sink had no idea about the most talked-about and insane Spider-Man 4 plot twist. The former Stranger Things star plays the iconic X-Men character, Jean Grey, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day alongside Tom Holland in the titular role.
In an interaction with Variety, Sink revealed that she initially had no idea about what V-Max actually meant in the story’s context. ‘Well, at first, I was like, ‘Is the sister in the vent?’ [Laughs.] Then I kept on reading the script, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, wait, that’s so much better that it means absolutely nothing.'”
The original version of Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s script had more dialogue regarding Sink’s character talking about how V-Max meant nothing. “Then, on the day, it was kind of like, ‘Oh no, I think it just needs to be a look.’ It’s gonna be clearer, like you don’t really need to speak it through. I like that that’s the thing that unleashes her, just that anger over all of it being for nothing.”
During the movie, Sink’s character looks up at the air vent in the ceiling with a tag called “VENTMAX”, except the “ENT” part was peeled back while only showing “V-MAX”. It was the last thing her sister saw before dying, thus making Jean unleash her powers in an unprecedented way as a result of her anger.
How Sadie Sink’s character fits into Spider-Man 4’s story
Sadie Sink plays the popular X-Men character Jean Grey in Spider-Man 4. While the plot revolves around Peter Parker’s journey of dealing with his loneliness after everyone forgot him at the end of No Way Home, Jean Grey is shown to be struggling with isolation and grief after being separated from her sister.
The story manages to establish a balance between the two as they cross paths and learn more about each other. After knowing Peter’s past and his journey as a superpowered individual who uses his abilities for the greater good, Jean also finds peace with herself instead of pursuing a path of revenge following her sister’s death.
Speaking more of Jean Grey, she’s got a larger role in the MCU moving forward after Brand New Day. She will soon appear in the X-Men reboot movie by Jake Schreier. Alongside Sadie Sink, the ensemble cast of the new X-Men movie will also feature other iconic characters, namely Emma Frost, Cyclops, Beast, Professor X, and more.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters. Its cast also includes Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher.
