DC’s Strange Jimmy Olsen-Gorilla Grodd Series May Finally Have a Title

It appears that DC’s Jimmy Olsen series may finally have a name. The studio has yet to announce it officially, but new reports reveal the name under which the spin-off has been registered. This comes a few months after the showrunner admitted to still figuring out the title.

Title for Jimmy Olsen’s DC Series With Gorilla Grodd Possibly Revealed

According to A Geek’s Viewpoint’s post on X (formerly Twitter), the DC Jimmy Olsen series will be called “American Villain.” This is a very different title from initial speculations, which hinted the spin-off would be called DC Crime.

The user shared a screenshot revealing that the upcoming show currently has only one season, with the year listed as 2026-2027. However, DC has yet to announce a release timeline. The screenshot also notes that the show will predominantly be a comedy.

American Vandal creators Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault will be overseeing American Villain. While discussing the show’s genre and their own filmmaking experience, Perrault said, “It’s comfortable territory for Tony Yacenda and I.”

He continued, “We’ve worked in this crime mystery comedy for a very long time…There are definitely tools from that toolkit that we can apply here that I don’t think has been seen in the superhero genre thus far.”

American Villain will center on Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo, as he investigates incidents related to other dangerous DC villains in the city. Further plot details are currently under wraps. Meanwhile, last year’s reports revealed that Gorilla Grodd might be featured in the first season.

Jimmy Olsen will reportedly be joined by other Daily Planet journalists, played by Wendell Pierce, Mikaela Hoover, Christopher McDonald, and Beck Bennett. They will be reprising their respective roles from the 2025 Superman film. On the other hand, Lois Lane and Clark Kent are not expected to make an appearance.

American Villain is one of the two spin-off series that James Gunn spoke about last year. The other one was a spin-off about Mister Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi, which has yet to materialize.
