X-Force has debuted in the X-Men ’97 continuity ahead of Season 2‘s highly anticipated summer release. They appear in a new comic taking place before the sophomore installment’s events.
X-Force members revealed for X-Men ’97 Season 2
X-Men ’97: Season 2 prelude comic Issue #1, which sets the stage for the second installment’s story, introduces X-Force.
It takes place six months after the tragic event, dubbed “E-Day.” This refers to what transpired in the Season 1 finale, where Magneto diverted Asteroid M into space to prevent it from crashing into Earth and causing a mass extinction event planned by Bastion. Unfortunately, this resulted in an explosion that made the world presume the X-Men were dead when, in reality, they were scattered across different time periods.
E-Day has led to a crisis, wherein mutants have divided into groups to either gain control or fight back. X-Factor tries to maintain law and order while groups like the Alliance of Evil, who team up with Clan Akkaba, try to take advantage of the chaotic atmosphere left behind by Bastion.
Meanwhile, Cable uses the opportunity to form X-Force, intended to stop mutant threats before they can cause tragedy. He first recruits Archangel and Psylocke before expanding the roster to include Jubilee and Sunspot, according to Issue #2’s initial tease.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 Prelude Comic Issue #1 is now available from Marvel Comics. Steve Foxe wrote it while Salva Espin did the illustration. Both of them previously worked on the prelude comic series for Season 1. Todd Nauck provided the cover art. Season 2 Issue #2 will hit store shelves on July 8, 2026.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on July 1, 2026. Unlike the previous installment, this will have a total of nine episodes.
The voice cast includes Ross Marquand, Matthew Waterson, Ray Chase, Jennifer Hale, Alison-Sealy Smith, Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, and George Buza, among others. Beau DeMayo created the show and served as the head writer for the first two seasons.
