An update regarding the future of an upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off has surfaced ahead of its release. George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novella series — which will be adapted by HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms — has 12 unpublished stories, whose outlines have been shared with series co-creator Ira Parker. This suggests a long, bright future for the TV series, which has already been renewed for a second season.

In a recent interview with The National, Ira Parker revealed that George R.R. Martin “shared with [him] about 10 to 12 more little outlines for books, for novellas, taking Dunk and Egg all the way through their life.”
Accordingly, if HBO decides to adapt each novella on a seasonal basis, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms could run beyond eight seasons. However, Parker revealed that they have not thought about eight seasons or more for the Game of Thrones spin-off, saying that his and the creative team’s current focus is on Season 1 and that they are making Season 2. Nevertheless, he expressed hope that fans would warmly welcome the show so they could continue making it.
“Certainly, I love doing it. I love writing in this world, and it’s a wonderful story. So, I hope we get to make as many of these as possible,” he added.
Notably, Martin has offered varying estimates when it came to how many Dunk & Egg stories he said he would publish. He said in a Live Journal blog post in 2014 that the numbers he may have frequently mentioned, like seven, 10, or 12, were not “set in stone.”
Three Dunk & Egg novellas have been published so far. These are The Hedge Knight (1988), The Sworn Sword (2003), and The Mystery Knight (2010). The three of them were compiled into a book, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, released on October 6, 2015.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is scheduled to come out on January 18, 2026. Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell, Sam Spruell, Finn Bennett, Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, and Tanzyn Crawford are some of the show’s cast members.
