A new Avengers: Doomsday rumor hints at an exciting MCU reunion.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie arrives next year. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, then follows in 2027.
What is the new Avengers: Doomsday rumor?
Scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus tweeted regarding Avengers: Doomsday’s plot, “Fate of the entire multiverse hangs in the balance and two of the main teams have tension with each other because the leaders are still trying to sort out the ‘mantle’ debacle. And then add the OG to the mix.”
This is only a rumor at this time and should be treated as such, as Marvel has not revealed any official plot details about Avengers: Doomsday at this time.
Should the rumor prove to be accurate, however, “the OG” seemingly means the original Avengers — Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye — or at least some variation of that team line-up. Black Widow is, of course, dead in the MCU, though all bets are off when it comes to the multiverse’s magic.
The other two teams are likely the New Avengers, led by Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, and the Avengers team that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Captain America is assembling.
The only cast members part of the original Avengers who have been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday are Downey Jr. and Hemsworth, though Downey Jr. is now playing Doctor Doom rather than Tony Stark. There have been numerous rumors and reports that Evans will show up, in some capacity, in Doomsday, but his actual involvement in the project remains unclear at this time.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released in United States theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is dated for December 17, 2027.
