Booster Gold: DCU TV Show Finds Acclaimed Showrunner

DC Studios’ upcoming Booster Gold show has finally received a major update, teasing the current progress of the DC Universe project. This comes after over two years since the show was first announced by James Gunn.

Who is the showrunner for the Booster Gold DCU show?

According to Deadline, Our Flag Means Death creator David Jenkins has been tapped to pen the pilot episode for the long-delayed Booster Gold series. Should the project receive an official series order from HBO Max, Jenkins will then become its showrunner.

The live-action HBO Max show will be part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters phase. At the moment, the project has no production start date or cast attached to it yet. However, Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani was one of the actors previously rumored for the lead role. In a previous interview, Gunn explained the reason for the Booster Gold show’s delay, revealing that he would never move forward with production if the screenplays aren’t where he want them to be.

“From the beginning, I’ve made it clear that the one thing that we’re going to do at DC is no matter what we’re going to wait until the screenplays and the teleplays are ready before we shoot them. And I’m not going to shoot anything until I’m happy with it,” Gunn said.

Michael Jon Carter/Booster Gold was created by writer and artist Dan Jurgens in 1986 for Booster Gold #1. In the comics, he was initially introduced as a disgraced college football star from the year 2442. He steals time-traveling technology and journeys back to modern day to pretend to be a superhero by using basic technology from the future for the sake of fame and fortune. However, he eventually becomes a real hero after joining the Justice League. Prior to the character’s live-action DC Universe debut, the fan-favorite hero was previously played by Eric Martsolf in Smallville and by Donald Faison in Legends of Tomorrow.
