David Tennant Says Kilgrave Won’t Be in Jessica Jones Season 3

Unlike every other Marvel Netflix series, the announcement of Jessica Jones’ cancellation came before the series got to air its final season. Despite this, season 3 is definitely coming later this year. Not much is known about its plot, but we can officially rule out David Tennant’s return as the villainous Kilgrave. Tennant confirmed that in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. Tennant also used the opportunity to reflect on the streaming service’s decision to cancel the series.

“I don’t really regard it as a cancellation so much as something having the life that it should have,” said Tennant. “Three seasons of that story is great. Rather than thinking of it as something that was canceled, I think of it as something that had three seasons that will live in the memory.”

Tennant garnered rave reviews for his performance in Jessica Jones’ first season. Although Kilgrave died in the first season finale, he made an appearance during the second season as a hallucination. Currently, Tennant is making the rounds promoting his upcoming role on Amazon Prime’s Good Omens. He stars on the show as Crowley, an Earth-bound demon who seeks to prevent the coming Apocalypse. The series is based on the novel co-written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

No casting announcements have been made for Jessica Jones’ new season, so it’s hard to speculate on who will be menacing Krysten Ritter’s titular heroine. However, the second season finale did show Rachael Taylor’s Trish Walker discovering her Hellcat powers. Since the last season didn’t leave Jessica and Trish on good terms, it’s possible that the new episodes will pit the adoptive sisters against each other.

Jessica Jones season 3 is still without a premiere date. How do you feel about David Tennant sitting out the final batch of episodes? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
