Amazon just made a lot of Avengers fans really happy! Earlier this month, we reported that fans had started receiving notices of a delay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One Box Set, which was supposed to hit the same day as the Blu-rays and DVD on September 25. The set was to include Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray presentations of Marvel's The Avengers, Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, as well as Blu-ray versions of Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk and the discs were to be housed in a replica of Nick Fury's briefcase alongside a light-up model Tesseract and many other prop replicas straight from the films.
Speculation suggested that the delay was due to a pending lawsuit on the part of the company that manufactured the case for the film. The Phase One set will now be released in Spring 2013, but Amazon just sent out this note to fans who ordered the set...
We're writing to let you know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One-Avengers Assembled Collection will not be released by Marvel as originally expected. Instead, Marvel is planning to offer a similar collection in new packaging. The new collection will include the original titles offered with the first version of the item, and is expected to be available in the spring of 2013. To make this easy for you, we updated your order for the original collection and will ship the new collection when it becomes available. The price of the new collection will be the same as the original collection.
To show our appreciation for your understanding, we are providing you with a promo code to receive a free copy of Marvel's The Avengers (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging). To be eligible, you must have placed your order between June 1, 2012 and August 28, 2012. Any cancelled orders are not eligible to receive the free copy. Codes must be redeemed by October 15, 2012.
Pretty cool, right? We're guessing other companies will be doing the same thing so that those who ordered the box set won't have to pay for another copy on September 25th.
