First Look at AMC's The Walking Dead

June 02, 2010

Darabont and Hurd discuss the show and the first photos

Production begins today in Atlanta for AMC's adaptation of the Robert Kirkman comic "The Walking Dead." The six-episode first season--written, produced and directed by three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) and executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk)--follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home after a zombie apocalypse.

AMC has provided us with this video, in which Darabont discusses his inspiration for doing a series about zombies, the thrust of this survival story and his goal to "do for zombies what 'Mad Men' has done for advertising." Hurd also weighs in with her thoughts on the new series. Below the video, you'll also find first-look photos!

I wonder if Frank Darabont's script to Indiana Jones 4 was any good. My guess, based on Shawshank, Green Mile, The Mist, Frankenstein, and The Majestic, not to mention Spielberg liking it a lot, I would say yes it was. Guess we'll never know thanks to that selfish and pompous ass George Lucas.

This, however, looks very interesting. I love Darabont's stuff, what he did to King's works is amazing and I hope this show is as good as Breaking Bad.

BTW, is that Kevin Bacon in zombie make-up?

You know of all comics this is one of the ones I was most afraid to be ruined by hollywood and be made into a movie, but seeing this shows me that time is being taken to make this show pitch perfect. So now I am no longer scared of a failure, now just excited to see full finished product! With LOST gone I need a good serialized show to watch and this will for sure be it. Just don't let it get cancelled!!!!

Interesting.

Now that Lost and 24 are finished, I'm always keeping my eye out for new shows to watch.

This will be a nice addition I expect :)

It's like they made their faces to mimic Tony Moore's artwork. The shapes and contours of their faces are very reminiscent of the artwork, I think.
