NYCC: Marvel Comics Announces New Crossover Event and Star Wars Comic

Marvel was very busy at their regular Cup O’ Joe panel today at the New York Comic Con today, as they announced a number of new titles as well as yet another big crossover event, which will be called The Black Vortex.

The crossover event will see the Guardians of the Galaxy teaming up with the X-Men to go after the titular object, which is described as an “ancient cosmic artifact that unlocks the cosmic potential in anyone.” Should that kind of power fall into the wrong hands, it could spell doom for the Marvel Universe, so the two teams head off into space to find it. The event will begin in February and encompass not only the Guardians of the Galaxy and All-New X-Men titles but also Legendary Star-Lord, Captain Marvel, Nova, and Cyclops.

One new actual series was revealed at the panel, but on the heels of the premiere of “Star Wars Rebels,” it’s a doozy. Come April 2015, Marvel Comics will publish Star Wars: Kanan #1, an ongoing prequel series exploring the origin of the jedi voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr. in the animated series. The first arc for the series will be written by Greg Weisman with art by Pepe Larraz. It will be titled “The Last Apprentice” and focus on Kanan surviving the infamous “Order 66.”
