Ahead of its release in September, Insomniac Games is celebrating another major milestone for Marvel’s Wolverine. The upcoming PS5 exclusive game has been in development for several years. With its latest update, Insomniac has essentially confirmed that it won’t be pushed any further.
In a new social media post, Insomniac Games confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine has “gone gold.” With it, the developer released in-game footage of Wolverine popping out his signature Adamantium claws. However, in the footage, they are made of gold.
Insomniac confirmed in a follow-up post that the Gold claws can be unlocked and equipped in the game upon release.
Why Marvel’s Wolverine going gold is bigger than a cosmetic giveaway
In the games industry, “going gold” means a video game has reached its final, completed version and is ready for manufacturing and release. Once a game “goes gold,” the master copy is locked in, approved by the publisher, and can be sent for pressing onto discs or prepared for digital distribution.
With the latest update, Insomniac Games has confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine is content-complete, and any further changes will arrive in post-launch updates.
Marvel’s Wolverine will be Insomniac’s fifth major game for the PS5. The developer previously released Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on Sony’s latest console. It was acquired by Sony in 2019 and has since become a part of PlayStation Studios.
The game will follow Logan on an original adventure, set in the world of Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. It will feature several iconic X-Men characters, including Jean Grey, Sabretooth, Mystique, Bolivar Trask, and Nathaniel Essex, aka Mister Sinister. Unlike the Spider-Man games, Wolverine will be a linear adventure.
Marvel’s Wolverine releases exclusively on PS5 on September 15, 2026. It will be available in two different editions, starting at $69.99.
