Square Enix Pushes Marvel’s Avengers Video Game Back To September

As of last year, developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix planned to make Marvel’s Avengers one of the company’s pre-summer blockbusters. But those plans have changed. Via Crystal Dynamics’ blog page, Marvel’s Avengers has been pushed back to September. It was originally going to hit consoles and PC on May 15.

According to Crystal Dynamics’ post, the company “will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.” Additionally, Square Enix also pushed the Final Fantasy VII Remake back to April for essentially the same reason.

Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel will play a key role in Marvel’s Avengers as she brings the team back together after the apparent death of Captain America. However, fans will still have the opportunity to play as Cap, Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, and Hawkeye. The reunited Avengers will take on AIM and uncover the mystery that drove them apart. DLC updates may also increase the roster of playable characters.

Because the announcement just happened this morning, it’s unclear what this means for the game’s publishing tie-ins. Titan’s Marvel’s Avengers: The Art of the Game was already slated for September. Marvel’s Avengers: The Extinction Key, a prequel novel, is scheduled to hit in March. However, the game’s delay could potentially push those dates back as well.
