Todd McFarlane’s Spawn is Confirmed For Mortal Kombat 11

In 2002, Todd McFarlane’s Spawn was a guest fighter in Namco’s SoulCalibur II on Xbox. Now, 17 years later, Spawn is making his return to the fighting game arena.

Netherrealm Studios has revealed that Spawn will be among the first six DLC fighters in Mortal Kombat 11. The confirmation came during the Shang Tsung reveal trailer; which reintroduced the series’ first boss with Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprising his role from the first film. Unfortunately, Spawn doesn’t actually appear in the trailer. There is simply a list that mentions Spawn as an upcoming DLC character alongside Nightwolf and Sindel. Additionally, there will be two more guest characters in the game.

Although the trailer didn’t identify either of the remaining fighters, the sound of a chainsaw is clearly heard. Could it be Evil Dead‘s Ash Williams? He seems like the obvious choice. However, Bruce Campbell has previously denied that Ash will appear in Mortal Kombat 11.

Back in December, McFarlane inadvertently revealed that Spawn was in the game during a Reddit AMA. McFarlane didn’t shy away from a question about Spawn’s appearance in MK 11. In fact, he said “I believe he’s on his way.”

There were a few rumors that Spawn was slated for Injustice 2. Instead, Netherrealm introduced Mike Mignola’s Hellboy and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the lineup. Given the studios’ appreciation of comic book and horror characters, it seems likely that MK 11‘s other guest DLC fighters will also be familiar faces.
