The Archie franchise shows no sign of stopping, with the latest update coming three years after Riverdale concluded its run on The CW. Archie Andrews is all set to embark on a brand new adventure in an upcoming project.
New Archie comics reboot brings Riverdale back in September 2026
Archie Comics will undergo another reboot via Oni Press, six years after the previous comics ended in 2020. This reboot will bring the titular protagonist into the present, while exploring both the past and future of Riverdale. Ben H. Winters is writing the reboot, with art from Fábio Moon.
“Beginning with the momentous first chapter of the joyous new ongoing series by New York Times bestselling writer, Edgar Award and Philip K. Dick Award winner, and Eisner Award nominee Ben H. Winters (EC’s Cruel Universe, Benjamin) with art by Eisner Award–winning artist Fábio Moon (Daytripper, Casanova), Archie #1 will also feature a bounty of exciting extras, including puzzles, pin-ups, and more,” reads Oni Press’ description of the project.
The publication also recently gave fans a first look inside the inaugural issue of the comics. According to the official synopsis, the plot revolves around 17-year-old Archie, who “has had it all: adoring friends, football glory, and a natural charm that always seems to make him the center of attention.”
The comics explore “the warmth and wonder of Riverdale and its near-infinite roster of residents” through Archie’s eyes. The synopsis also teases that Archie will go on an adventure through Riverdale’s past, present, and future, starting with a local film festival.
Besides Archie, the only other character that the synopsis mentions by name is Jughead Jones, who can potentially solve the “enigmatic paradox” that lies at the center of the core of the series’ mystery. Although other prominent Archie characters aren’t mentioned, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, and others will likely appear in the series.
Archie #1 debuts on September 2, 2026.
