Hasbro, Amazon, & Jonathan Nolan Rebooting Beloved 1980s TV Show

A popular 1980s TV series is making a live-action comeback thanks to Hasbro, Jonathan Nolan, and Amazon. The original animated show made by Christy Marx ran for three seasons from 1985 before being canceled.

What 1980s TV show are Hasbro, Amazon, and Jonathan Nolan rebooting?

Hasbro, Amazon MGM Studios, and Jonathan Nolan have partnered to bring back the iconic TV show Jem and The Holograms. It will return as a live-action TV series, reports Deadline.

The original Jem and the Holograms animated TV series launched in 1985 following the boom of music videos sparked by MTV’s launch. The show followed Jerrica Benton, owner of a record company, and her alter-ego Jem, the lead singer of the rock group Jem and The Holograms. Each episode featured music videos alongside original songs, including the iconic main theme, Truly Outrageous.

During its span of three seasons, the animated TV show became the most-watched cartoon of its time, even outshining iconic shows like Transformers and He-Man. Its popularity among kids endured long after cancellation through album releases, comic book series, and JemCon, a fan-run convention now in its 20th year.

Back in 2015, Universal Pictures tried to resurrect the popularity of Jem And The Holograms with a live-action movie, however, it was a forgettable attempt. Directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Aubrey Peeples as Jem, the film failed miserably, earning just over $2 million against a budget of $5 million, according to The Numbers. Plus, it also fared negatively among critics and moviegoers, with a poor 22% Tomatometer score and 40% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Speaking of the upcoming live-action Jem And The Holograms TV show from Amazon and Hasbro, it has Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan as the executive producers alongside Gabriel Marano.

The Jem And The Holograms TV show reboot has yet to receive an official release date window.
