DC Studios has provided a new update on its upcoming Green Lantern series as part of the evolving DCU timeline. Recent reports hint at a possible adjustment to the project’s release window, leading to renewed speculation about its placement within the studio’s future slate.
Lanterns to get its release date after Supergirl movie
A new report suggests that DC’s upcoming Lanterns series will now premiere after the release of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision newsletter noted that the Peacemaker Season 2 finale would be “the last of the Gunn-verse we’ll see until June’s Supergirl,” hinting that Lanterns has been pushed from its previously expected early 2026 window.
Following the mention, The Lanterncast podcast host contacted one of THR’s writers, who confirmed the change, saying, “You are quite the eagle-eyed reader. Yes, we expect Lanterns will now come out after Supergirl.” DCU Brief later reposted this exchange on X, stating that the series is “not expected to release until after Supergirl (after June 2026).”
James Gunn, who serves as executive producer, previously indicated that Lanterns and Supergirl would release around the same time. “It’s really Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Lanterns, Supergirl,” Gunn said in a prior IGN interview. He added that the series would have a “grounded, believable” tone, similar to True Detective, and praised the scripts written by Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy, and Tom King.
The show stars Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. It follows two Green Lanterns investigating a cosmic-scale mystery spanning Earth and space. Production reportedly wrapped in early October. HBO has filled its 2026 lineup with major releases. The network’s focus on shows like Euphoria Season 3 and Knight of the Seven Kingdoms may have prompted the scheduling shift.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will release in theaters on June 26, 2026, followed by the debut of Lanterns. It will serve as DC Studios’ next major live-action series in the new DCU.
