Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot Returns Teased by Sarah Michelle Gellar

Sarah Michelle Gellar wants to resurrect several characters for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.

Who does Sarah Michelle Gellar want to bring back in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot?

Gellar is set to reprise her role as Buffy Summers for Hulu’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. Currently, Gellar is the only cast member from the original series returning for the reboot. If Gellar had it her way, she’d bring back several characters from the dead.

While speaking with Vanity Fair Italia, Gellar teased the tone of the reboot and how she hopes to incorporate legacy characters with the new ones.

“It will be lighter than the last few seasons of the original,” Gellar said. “We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.”

Gellar did not reveal the deceased characters she wishes to see in the Buffy reboot. However, Gellar expressed her push to incorporate relevant themes from today’s world into the reboot.

“One of the surprising aspects of Buffy is that it’s always been a crossover series,” Gellar explained. “We’re trying to figure out how to modernize the themes of the series, especially what it means to feel like an outsider in a world dominated by social media. What we want to explore are the space-time boundaries that affect society today.”

Gellar will act in and executive produce the Buffy reboot. Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who recently starred in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, has been cast in a leading role as a new slayer.

Showrunners Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman will write the pilot and executive produce the series. Oscar winner Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce. Additional executive producers include Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzui, and Dolly Parton. 20th Television and Searchlight Television will produce. The reboot will air on Hulu.
