Marvel TV shows reportedly won’t feature major MCU characters for much longer.
Following the recent release of Thunderbolts*, Marvel is now launching the Disney+ Ironheart series this coming June. The Fantastic Four: First Steps comes after that in July, while the animated Eyes of Wakanda series is currently dated for June.
What’s the latest report on Marvel TV shows?
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, the surviving members of the Thunderbolts, now known as the New Avengers, and the Fantastic Four will “pop up in all kinds of Marvel movies” going forward.
Marvel Studios fans shouldn’t expect to see them in any forthcoming TV shows, however, as, according to Sneider, “the upcoming Vision series will be the last Marvel series to feature major characters from the movies.”
“You’ll get mentions of major characters, just like how Spider-Man (the Peter Parker version) was referenced in Daredevil: Born Again, during a speech where newly elected mayor Wilson Fisk mentions a ‘man who dresses in a spider outfit’ while condemning costumed vigilantes,” Sneider wrote. “There are going to be a whole lot more references like that in Marvel shows, but look for those shows to continue to be based around characters like Wonder Man, who arrives new to the MCU on Disney+ in December, rather than Vision, a big-screen character whom audiences are accustomed to paying to see.”
This report makes sense, as the Disney+ shows have been building their own little world within the MCU; the aforementioned Vision series, for example, is tied to WandaVision, which is also tied to Agatha All Along. Daredevil: Born Again, meanwhile, has set the stage for a new Punisher Disney+ special that is now in development. There’s always the possibility that Marvel could build towards some Defenders-like crossover event show on Disney+ while the MCU movies continue to build toward Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
