Moon Knight Episode 1 – What Did You Think?!

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Moon Knight episode 1!

At long last, the Fist of Khonshu has arrived. The first episode of Moon Knight has premiered on Disney+, and we want to know what the Superhero Hype community thinks about it! This post is a place for all of you to leave your own reviews, thoughts, or anything else you want to say about Moon Knight episode 1.

There’s not a lot of Moon Knight in costume this week. Instead, we get to meet Steven Grant, a guy whose best friend is a one-finned goldfish he calls Gus. Steven is also paranoid about sleepwalking, based on his past experiences. That’s why Steven has multiple restraints and ways to check if he want anywhere at night. For his day job, Steven works in the gift shop of a museum, even though his passion for Egyptian mythology makes him more suited to be a tour guide. And much to Steven’s surprise, he has a date with a co-worker at a steak house.

That night, Steven tries everything he can to stay awake. Regardless, he wakes up somewhere in the Alps. He then hears the voice of Khonshu telling him to surrender his body to Marc. Steven also discovers that he has a golden scarab in his possession, and several angry gunmen on his heels. Steven temporarily hides among the followers of Arthur Harrow, an enigmatic cult leader.

Harrow recognizes Steven as a mercenary, but Steven introduces himself by name and says he only works in a gift shop. Harrow also demands the return of the scarab, but Steven finds that he can’t willingly give it back. As Steven makes his escape, he loses time to blackouts and awakens to discover beaten and dead bodies in his wake. Before he can perish, Steven awakens back in his apartment. And since there are no obvious signs that he left, Steven assumes it was all a dream. But he soon notices that Gus now has two fins. Steven also learns that lost two days, and accidentally stood up his date.

Back at his apartment, Steven finds a hidden phone and answers a call from Layla. She calls him Marc and tells him that she thought he was dead. Layla also seems frustrated by Steven’s horrible accent and his evasive answers before she hangs up on him. Shortly thereafter, Steven hears his reflection speaking to him. He also has a ghostly encounter with Khonshu on the elevator.

Much to Steven’s alarm, Harrow and his followers track him down to the museum. Harrow actually gives Steven a chance to return the scarab without violence. When that doesn’t work, Harrow calls upon a mystical jackal to attack Steven. After barricading himself in a bathroom, Steven is confronted by his reflection/Marc, who asks him to relinquish control so that they can be saved. Moon Knight emerges and beats the crap out of the jackal before heading out into the night.
