Netflix Drops the First Track From The Witcher Season 2 Score

In just a few weeks, The Witcher will make its long-awaited return to Netflix. And aside from several new characters making their debut on the show this year, the new season will also add a new composer into the mix. Now, fans can sample a taste of his contributions to the series. Milan Records has just released the first single from Joseph Trapanese’s score for The Witcher season 2.

Trapanese replaces season 1 composers Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli, a fact that might not sit well with any viewers who thought the music was fine as it was. Fortunately, Trapanese is the same composer behind Netflix’s Shadow and Bone, so he can definitely handle high fantasy. Some of his other scores include The Greatest Showman, The Raid, and Tron: Legacy, which he composed with Daft Punk.

Trapanese’s first song from The Witcher, “Power and Purpose,” sets up the next leg of Geralt’s journey in big ways. It empowers, but it also hints at the many dangers that lie ahead. You can check it out four yourself below.

Netflix’s soundtrack for The Witcher season 2 will feature more than just Trapanese’s orchestral suites. According to Collider, the album also includes three new vocal tracks from Joey Batey, who reprises his role as Jaskier. This should be good news to anyone who enjoyed his rendition of “Toss a Coin To Your Witcher,” which made the rounds in season 1 in 2019.

The Witcher season 2 will premiere on Netflix on December 17.
