Forest Whitaker Will Return as Saw Gerrera For Star Wars: Andor
Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Andor series will feature at least one more familiar face when it premieres on Disney+ next year. According to The Playlist, Forest Whitaker his reprising his Rogue One role as Saw Gerrera for the upcoming prequel.
Saw was originally introduced in the fifth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (voiced by Andrew Kishino) as an Onderian who led a band of resistance fighters against their planet’s monarch, who also had the backing of the Separatist army. In 2016, Saw made his live-action debut in Rogue One, with Whitaker stepping into the role. Whitaker went on to voice Saw in several episodes of Star Wars Rebels, and also returned to play the character in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019. Saw currently appears on Star Wars: The Bad Batch on Disney+, with Kishino once again providing his voice.
Andor officially began production last fall, with Diego Luna returning to play the title character. The series takes place several years before the events of Rogue One and will shed light on the early days of Cassian Andor’s fight against the Galactic Empire. Genevieve O’Reilly will also reprise her role as Mon Mothma on the series alongside newcomers Stellan Skarsgård, Fiona Shaw, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Robert Emms. Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One and also directed the film’s reshoots, is acting as showrunner for the project.
Star Wars: Andor will hit Disney+ sometime in 2022.
