The Walking Dead: World Beyond Will Only Run Two Seasons

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Will Only Run Two Seasons

AMC has all but guaranteed that The Walking Dead brand isn’t going off the air anytime soon. However, the next spinoff to join the family isn’t going to last as long as its older siblings. Via Collider, the series’ producers are only planning to air two seasons of The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

This is surprising given the franchise’s expansion in recent years. After all, The Walking Dead is currently in its 10th season, with confirmed plans for an eleventh premiering this fall. Similarly, Fear the Walking Dead has already been renewed for a sixth season. AMC has also committed to a trilogy of movies starring Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, who departed the flagship series in season 9. Apparently, fans should get used to the self-contained story format. Collider’s report notes that AMC is going to continue experimenting with this style on other spinoffs currently in development.

AMC first announced The Walking Dead: World Beyond last year. However, the network didn’t reveal its official title until November. The new show will center on the first generation of survivors to grow up during the zombie outbreak. World Beyond is headlined by a predominantly young cast. And as early trailers have suggested, it will most likely skew toward a teenage audience. Showrunner Matt Negrete developed the series with Walking Dead Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple. Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts helmed the pilot episode.

Additionally, AMC has shared the premiere date for the upcoming spinoff. The Walking Dead: World Beyond will debut on Sunday, April 12 at 10pm. The episode will air following The Walking Dead’s tenth season finale.
