Adrianne Palicki Won’t Return for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Final Season

Although Adrianne Palicki’s Wonder Woman series never got picked up, she still found a way into the comic book landscape in 2014 when she joined the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Bobbi Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird. Next year, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will wrap its seven season run, presumably with a few returning stars. Unfortunately, Palicki dashed any hopes of her return when she appeared at New York Comic-Con last weekend.

Palicki delivered the news while participating in a panel for the upcoming third season of The Orville. When a fan asked if Bobbi and her ex-husband, Lance Hunter, would come back for one last goodbye, Palicki revealed that the producers never contacted her about a potential return. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. introduced Bobbi Morse in season 2. She and Hunter made their final appearances as series regulars during the third season. Following an incident with the Russian government, Bobbi and Hunter willingly left S.H.I.E.L.D. in order to avoid an international conflict. Nick Blood returned as Hunter in an episode of season 5, where he broke Fitz out of a military prison. During their escape, he mentioned that he and Bobbi didn’t re-marry, but they were in fact still together.

Bobbi and Hunter’s popularity with fans nearly led to their own spinoff, Marvel’s Most Wanted. ABC filmed a pilot episode, but ultimately decided to pass on the series in 2016. Given Palicki’s commitments to The Orville and Marvel’s precarious relationship with non-Disney+ TV platforms, a revival of this concept seems highly unlikely.
