AMC Renews Preacher for a Fourth Season

Although the third season of Preacher didn’t have stellar ratings, AMC isn’t giving up on the show. As reported by Deadline, AMC has ordered a fourth season of the show based upon Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult classic comic book series.

Preacher is a show unlike any other on television, said AMC’s David Madden. “A passionate base of fans found their way to Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy and have followed along with their adventures, at times indescribable adventures, for three seasons. We are thankful to our partners at Sony and to Seth, Evan and Sam for everything they have brought to this series, which we are pleased to renew for a fourth season. Like the superfans of Preacher, we can’t wait to see where this journey leads next.”

The show follows Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a small town preacher who was empowered with the word of God. It happened when he was joined with Genesis, the offspring of a demon and an angel. With few exceptions, everyone in creation has to obey Jesse’s command when he uses the word of God. Jesse’s girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and his vampire friend, Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), joined Jesse on an extended road trip to literally find God. The Almighty has abandoned Heaven, and he seems to be avoiding Jesse in particular.

During the third season, Jesse was forced to strike a bargain with his grandmother to resurrect Tulip. However, Jesse’s grandmother attempted to extend her life by making a pact with Satan. Jesse disregarded the consequences of that to make her pay for her crimes, which may have condemned him to Hell. Additionally, Cassidy was captured by the Grail, a fanatical religious cult that is determined to use Jesse’s powers or to destroy him.

The fourth season of Preacher will begin production in early 2019. AMC hasn’t set a premiere date yet. Are you excited to hear about Preacher’s renewal? Let us know in the comment section below!
