Star Wars’ New Mandalorian Special Has Hidden Phantom Menace Easter Egg Most Fans Missed

Disney+ received three new pieces of The Mandalorian content today. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, an accompanying podcast, offering a behind-the-scenes look, and LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian, a comedic retelling of the show’s three seasons. The last one had a slew of easter eggs that have fans talking about some classic Star Wars content.

One scene shows the comedy show bringing in a podracer, which happens to be the same vehicle Anakin Skywalker used as a child in The Phantom Menace. There were numerous other easter eggs throughout the show that had eagle-eyed fans searching for connections.

Anakin’s podracer comes from one of Star Wars’ most iconic moments

Anakin’s podrace in The Phantom Menace remains one of the most iconic parts of the Prequel Trilogy. Not only does it establish Anakin as the gifted pilot that he is, but it also sets Anakin up for his journey to the Jedi Order. Many fans and critics have pointed to the moment Anakin was separated from his mother as the biggest mistake that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan made, as it aggravated Skywalker’s attachment issues, ultimately leading to his fall.

The Prequel Trilogy had a slew of issues that made it inferior to the Original Trilogy, but there were certain moments that elevated the trilogy to the operatic structure that works so well for Star Wars as a franchise.

Given that The Mandalorian had a brief stint on Tatooine (by himself and to aid Boba Fett), it made sense that LEGO Star Wars went to the planet as well. The show also referenced other iconic elements of the franchise, such as the poster for The Mandalorian, which shows Din Djarin walking with Grogu in a pod beside him.

It is not yet known what lies next for Din Djarin and Grogu. Perhaps the show will receive a fourth season before the film receives a sequel?
