Peacemaker star John Cena has given fans a worrying update. The actor discussed his possible return to the DCU. However, he admitted that his return could never happen.
John Cena says Peacemaker’s DCU return ‘could be never’
Speaking with ScreenRant at the Coyote vs. ACME premiere, John Cena discussed his return. He was asked when he would put the Peacemaker helmet back on. Cena responded, “He [James Gunn] does. And that could be never, but he knows. He knows.” The interviewer then expressed hope for an update on the series soon.
Cena’s comments come amid uncertainty around Peacemaker. Reports revealed Season 3 is not currently planned. However, HBO Max has not officially canceled the series. James Gunn could still bring the show back later.
Peacemaker could also appear in another DCU project, with one possibility being Man of Tomorrow, which is set to release next year. Peacemaker Season 2 ending left his future uncertain as Rick Flag Sr. had Chris abducted by A.R.G.U.S.
He was then transported through an interdimensional doorway to Salvation. Flag wanted Salvation to become a metahuman prison. Chris Smith was ultimately left stranded there alone. The finale also connected Flag with Lex Luthor.
The ending left plenty of possibilities for Peacemaker. A potential third season could continue that storyline. But for now, nothing has been officially confirmed. A few days ago, Gunn gave fans a confusing update.
When a fan asked about the possibility of Peacemaker Season 3, Gunn responded with a thinking-face emoji instead. That response offered no clear confirmation either way. It did, however, give fans some hope about Season 3.
Now Cena’s latest comments add another layer. His “could be never” comment sounds concerning. However, Gunn’s recent tease keeps the door slightly open. It remains unclear whether they are teasing fans. For now, Peacemaker’s future in the DCU remains uncertain.
