When Resident Evil fans step into theaters, they can get their popcorn in an organ transplant bag. The upcoming movie, based on Capcom‘s blockbuster survival-horror video game franchise, is helmed by Zach Cregger.
Regal’s official X account has revealed the Resident Evil movie’s popcorn bag, which is designed to resemble an organ transplant bag. “Need a transplant? We recommend this popcorn bag,” read the post.
Unsurprisingly, the popcorn bag is a nod to the movie’s main character, Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, who is a medical courier.
What to expect from the new Resident Evil movie
The Resident Evil movie won’t necessarily feature the most iconic characters from Capcom’s survival-horror gaming series. Fans won’t see Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Ada Wong, or Chris Redfield in the movie. Instead, the film will try to build its own world, set in the 1998 Raccoon City.
Director Zach Cregger has previously explained why he ditched all the game characters in his Resident Evil movie. “To try and shoehorn in any of those characters would feel inorganic to this self-contained story,” he said in an interview with Empire. “I have to put the story first and foremost.”
The entire story will focus on Bryan’s character, who has remained in the spotlight in all of the Resident Evil trailers so far. “Bryan is very much an everyman who happens to be burdened with this kind of sacred mission that’s going to take him into the heart of everything. It’s kind of like Frodo going into Mordor,” Cregger added.
The movie is written by Cregger and Shay Hatten. Producers on the project include Robert Kulzer, Roy Lee, Victor Hadida, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Cregger. Additionally, Richard Wright, Oliver Berben, and Robert Bernacci are executive producing.
Besides Austin Abrams, the cast also features Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser in crucial roles. The Resident Evil movie will be released in theaters on September 18, 2026.
