Gal Gadot reveals what happened with her Mad Max Fury Road audition
Gal Gadot revealed details about her Mad Max: Fury Road audition on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz. She disclosed that she screen-tested with Tom Hiddleston for the role of Furiosa. The audition took place in London with director George Miller.
“We came to London, and I remember walking into this beautiful home in London, into this office, and we stayed there for 4 hours,” Gadot said. She arrived wearing multiple layers on a cold winter day in London. “I came out in like a tank top. It was so intensive the work that we’ve done and how much we filmed,” she added.
Gadot felt confident about her performance during the audition session. “I felt good about the work that we did,” she told Horowitz about the experience. She also praised Hiddleston’s talent, calling him “such an incredible actor.” Gadot noted she had not known him before the audition. “He was like a big theater actor in England, but he was so amazing,” she said.
The role ultimately went to Charlize Theron, who starred opposite Tom Hardy. “George really knew he had a vision for what he wanted,” Gadot acknowledged. The audition happened around the same time she tested for other major roles. Fury Road went on to win six Academy Awards at the 88th ceremony.
Gadot currently stars in The Runner, directed by Kevin Macdonald for Amazon MGM Studios. The film releases on Prime Video on September 2, 2026. She plays Maia, a single mother and lawyer who must run across a city to save her abducted son. Damian Lewis co-stars as the mysterious caller who issues her commands. Gadot told Horowitz she hates running as a workout despite the film’s physical demands.
