According to a recent rumor, Jon Bernthal might return as Punisher in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday“. However, this is only a rumor, and his inclusion in the movie has not been confirmed yet. Bernthal was recently seen in the movie “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Mark Ruffalo.
The Punisher could be back as soon as Avengers: Doomsday
According to scooper James Mack, fans might get to see Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday”. Mack made the claim on his Patreon.
According to MCU Film News, Mack revealed, “RUMOR: Jon Bernthal will reportedly return as The Punisher in ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY.’ He reportedly filmed a scene at a bar.” However, neither Bernthal nor Marvel Studios has confirmed the reported casting. As Bernthal was last seen in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, fans are hyped about the character’s reported appearance in a significant MCU event.
The rumor drops amid news that Avengers: Doomsday is currently undergoing reshoots.
It also comes after Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye in the MCU, hinted at his long-awaited return to the universe after his last appearance in the 2021 “Hawkeye” TV series. Renner posted a snap of Hawkeye’s costume on Instagram, along with the character’s theme music.
In May, Bernthal discussed a potential return of his character to the MCU after his appearance in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”. He said, “I’m really down to keep doing more. But I think I have to be the one that’s making it.”
The “Punisher” star spoke to Variety in July on his character’s future. He said, “The great thing about what we get to do is you never know what’s going to come next, and that’s something that I come to really embrace and love and celebrate. I don’t know what the next story is with Frank, but I know it’s out there.”
