Directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams, Batman: Knightfall – Part 1 is the first installment in a planned animated trilogy based on the DC Comics storyline. The film premiered at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival before arriving on digital platforms.
The film follows Batman after Bane destroys Arkham Asylum and releases all of its inmates into Gotham City. With the criminals now free, Batman sets out to track them down and bring them back into custody. His efforts to deal with the escaped inmates leave him physically and mentally exhausted as he continues working to restore order across the city. The situation eventually leads Batman to confront Bane, the mysterious figure responsible for freeing the prisoners.
The film’s voice cast includes Anson Mount as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Mando as Bane, Pablo Schreiber as Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael, Jack Giffin as Tim Drake/Robin, Bruce Boxleitner as Commissioner Gordon, and David Dastmalchian as Edward Nygma/The Riddler, among others.
Part 2 of the three-part story is planned for release later in 2026, while Part 3 is expected to arrive in 2027.
