Episode 2 of Lanterns, titled “Trust Fall”, had more than a few surprises. Fan speculation has been rife as to who among the current cast might be a Manhunter, while there are others who want to see more of Sinestro. However, one thread seems to have piqued the interest of fans, thanks to the revelation that Sheriff Kerry Kane, one of the few allies Hal and John have found in Rushville, is actually from Gotham.
Played by Kelly Macdonald, Kerry Kane’s last name has caused fans and viewers to connect the character to Batwoman. Two women with the surname Kane have taken up the mantle of Batwoman in two separate DC continuities.
The Kanes are an influential family in Gotham, where Kerry claims to have moved from. Theories online have suggested that the character might be an undercover identity for Kate Kane, the current Batwoman in DC Comics.
Who else stars in Lanterns besides Kelly Macdonald as Kerry Kane?
Lanterns boasts a talented cast, with the main ensemble including Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, and Nathan Fillion. Chandler stars as DC’s second Green Lantern, Hal Jordan. Pierre essays the role of his apprentice and future Green Lantern, John Stewart. Garret Dillahunt essays the role of William Macon, a seemingly xenophobic modern cowboy, with Jagannathan playing his wife.
Thomsen essays the role of Thaal Sinestro, Hal’s former mentor who rebelled against the Green Lanterns and is currently serving time. Sinestro is an important character in the Lantern mythos and was previously essayed in live action by Mark Strong in 2011’s Green Lantern.
Nathan Fillion will be reprising his role from Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 as Guy Gardner, the first DCU Green Lantern that fans saw on screen. Fillion is the only member of the main cast who has yet to make an appearance in the show.
Lanterns airs weekly on Sundays on HBO and streams simultaneously on HBO Max.
