Lanterns: DCU Fans Are Convinced They Know Who HBO TV Show’s Secret Villain Is

DCU fans may have already figured out who the secret villain of the HBO TV show Lanterns is. The awaited series, led by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, made its premiere last week.

Some fans believe that Atrocitus might be the hidden villain who will be revealed in his true form in later episodes of Lanterns. One user, @CartierFilms, took to X and shared a picture of the DC Comics supervillain. They wrote, “Feel like we can go ahead and lock this in”

Antaan, played by Paul Ben-Victor, is catching buzz after the latest episode as fans think he might be Atrocitus himself. One user, named @DCdaily, wrote, “Antaan is definitely Atrocitus. The vibe I get from him just makes me think that’s who he actually is.”

Another fan, @AxelTalksFilm, echoed similar sentiments and simply shared Antaan’s picture from a scene in the DCU TV series. Along with that, they also shared a photo of Atrocitus and wrote, “All will be revealed in due time”

One more user, named @deanwinchester, expressed their excitement while teasing Atrocitus and other supervillains in Lanterns. They wrote, “kinda buzzy that we got Sinestro , Black Hand and Atrocitus all in one show.”

Who is Atrocitus in Green Lantern comics and why would he make sense for Lanterns?

In DC Comics, Atrocitus is the leader and founder of the Red Lantern Corps. His character wears a Red ring fueled by anger and he is an arch-nemesis of the Guardians of the Universe. Also known as the Templar Guardians, they are the immortal founders and leaders of the peacekeeping force, the Green Lantern Corps.

Atrocitus hates the Guardians of the Universe and wants to take revenge on them for his family’s death in the massacre of Sector 666.

Given the history between Atrocitus and the Guardians of the Universe, it seems obvious for the supervillain to show up at some point in Lanterns. However, HBO has yet to confirm whether the character will make an appearance.

As for Lanterns, its ensemble cast also features Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Jason Ritter, Laura Linney, and Ulrich Thomsen. Nathan Fillion is also back to reprise his role as fellow Green Lantern Guy Gardner.

Lanterns TV show airs Sunday nights on HBO and HBO Max.
