Avengers: Doomsday’s Chris Evans Reveals What Steve Rogers Has Been Doing Since Endgame

Chris Evans has finally opened up about what Steve Rogers has been doing since Avengers: Endgame. The 45-year-old actor is returning to the MCU as Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday after around eight years.

Speaking about his character’s life after Endgame, Evans said, “He’s doing his best to pursue the life he’s always wanted.” His comments came during an interview with Good Morning America at D23.

The Boston native also revealed Marvel pitched around a dozen ideas to him over eight years. Some of the concepts involved Steve Rogers operating as Nomad. However, the 45-year-old actor turned them down because he did not want to undermine the character’s emotional ending.

Evans said Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU helped change his mind. Director Joe Russo then presented him with a new story idea that convinced him to return. The 45-year-old actor previously spoke about how carefully he approached a potential return, and his “never say never” stance eventually became reality when the timing and story came together.

What other MCU projects has Chris Evans been in besides Avengers: Doomsday?

Evans first appeared as Steve Rogers in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. He went on to reprise the role in numerous MCU films. Evans also starred in The Winter Soldier and Civil War. He also appeared in ensemble films such as The Avengers, Age of Ultron, and Infinity War.

His last live-action MCU appearance as Steve Rogers before Avengers Doomsday was in 2019’s Endgame. That film concluded Rogers’ arc with him choosing a quiet life in retirement. Between 2019 and 2026, Evans did not appear in new MCU projects, except for a small cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine as a variant of Johnny Storm/Human Torch.

Doomsday brings together heroes from multiple universes. Marvel has confirmed Evans will return as Steve Rogers, while Anthony Mackie continues as the Earth-616’s current Captain America.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
