Disney’s D23 treated fans to an exclusive preview of Star Wars: Starfighter, introducing Ryan Gosling’s character in the movie. The actor joined director Shawn Levy on stage to tease the upcoming Star Wars installment.
During the show, Gosling switched to a new jacket inspired by his Star Wars: Starfighter character, Kade Auberon, a pilot. The jacket also featured the inverted symbol associated with the character. Introducing the movie, Gosling gave the live audience a peek into Kade’s journey ahead in the Star Wars universe.
“Kade is a guy from the wrong side of the galaxy, whose fate is intertwined with the fastest starfighter ever built,” Gosling teased. The teaser appeared on the giant screen moments later.
The preview shows Kade finding a young man fiddling with a decommissioned fighter jet that was once hailed as the fastest ever built. After tuning up the ship, Kade flies across breathtaking alien worlds. At one point, some droids begin shooting at the ship while Kade’s robot pilot helps him dodge them.
What else do we know about Star Wars: Starfighter?
Star Wars: Starfighter is an upcoming space opera film set five years after the events of the film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The movie is directed by Shawn Levy with a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper. Although D23 has given fans a taste of what the film has to offer, major plot details remain under wraps.
“Our movie comes out May 2027. I’m honored that we’re releasing our film on the same exact weekend that the original ‘Star Wars’ came out exactly 50 years earlier,” said Levy at the D23 fan event. “‘Starfighter’ embodies the themes of hope and family that have always been core to [these films]. It takes place in a period of time that’s never been shown in a Star Wars adventure.”
Besides Gosling, Star Wars: Starfighter stars Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.
