A trailer for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse leaked today, prompting co-writer Chris Miller to comment on the matter. The highly anticipated sequel has been in development for several years and has been pushed back multiple times. Sony Pictures Animation previously showed off footage from the film behind closed doors at Cinemacon earlier this year.
As reported by Variety, almost five minutes of the upcoming film’s footage made its way online through unofficial channels. In a new social media post referring to the leak, Chris Miller wrote, “Not a fan of leaks of unfinished, not fully rendered footage.”
This is far from the first time that footage from a Spider-Man film has leaked online. Late last year, a work-in-progress version of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer was leaked. Before that, various leaks spoiled the many surprises in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home ahead of release.
When will Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse officially be released in theaters?
Originally, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was scheduled to release in March 2024, but it faced several delays. These were due to multiple reasons, including strikes across Hollywood. At the time of writing, the film has been scheduled to release on June 18, 2027.
The upcoming film will finish the storyline started in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The first two films have been critically acclaimed, with the second ending on a cliffhanger. Shameik Moore will return to voice Miles Morales in the film, joined by returning stars Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Vélez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Oscar Isaac, and more.
The film will be directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham are writing the screenplay. Before that, fans can watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters worldwide.
