Jeffrey Dean Morgan just revealed the surprising reason it took him years to finally appear on The Boys. The actor discussed the multiple roles he was offered and the one obstacle that kept getting in the way.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast why joining The Boys took several years. Scheduling conflicts with The Walking Dead repeatedly prevented him from appearing on the Amazon series. Morgan explained that showrunner Eric Kripke reached out multiple times before casting finally worked out.

Morgan recalled publicly praising The Boys on social media when the show first premiered. “I came on social media when The Boys first hit and was like, ‘Oh my god,'” he said. Kripke noticed and contacted him about joining the series for its second season. However, Morgan’s commitment to The Walking Dead kept getting in the way of any deal.

The actor noted that conversations continued over multiple seasons without any resolution. “This was like for year two. And then happened again in year three. And always my schedule with Walking Dead was in the way,” Morgan said. He also hinted that he nearly landed other roles on the show during those discussions.

Morgan acknowledged that some of those missed opportunities still linger with him today. “I had an option to do a couple roles that would have been really fun,” he shared. He declined to specify which characters those were but added with a sigh about what could have been. The scheduling issues eventually resolved, and Morgan joined The Boys Season 4 as Joe Kessler.

His role on the show reunited him with Kripke, who had previously cast him on Supernatural years earlier. Morgan described their on-set chemistry as immediate and praised working with Karl Urban on the series. “We had an instant chemistry that was kind of undeniable and fun,” he said about his co-star. Morgan expressed deep gratitude toward Kripke for continuing to pursue him despite the repeated scheduling obstacles over the years.
