MonsterVerse Fans Still Don’t Know Kurt Russell Is Wyatt’s Father

Many Monarch: Legacy of Monsters fans only recently learned that Wyatt Russell, who plays the younger version of Lee Shaw, is the real-life son of Kurt Russell. The surprising discovery sparked a hilarious reaction online, and the father-son duo themselves had plenty to say about the viral confusion.

Wyatt and Kurt Russell react to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters comment

During a fan Q&A event for the Apple TV+ series, Kurt and Wyatt Russell were reading viewer reactions when one comment stole the spotlight. A fan wrote, “Man… that dude that plays the younger version of Kurt Russell’s character in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is doing a pretty cool Kurt Russell impression.” The remark instantly made both actors laugh.

The moment became even funnier when the same fan later realized Wyatt is actually Kurt’s son and shared a shocked Pikachu GIF online. The clip quickly circulated among viewers who were equally surprised by the real-life connection between the two performers.

Wyatt admitted the confusion is more common than people might expect. “I’ve had people who are like, ‘You’re actually his son,’” he said, adding that after nearly two decades in the public eye, he assumed most viewers already knew. “I’ve seen it a lot, less people know than you think.” Kurt also laughed when Wyatt joked that Pikachu might be “more famous than Godzilla.”

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, now streaming on Apple TV, pushes the MonsterVerse story forward after the events of Godzilla. The series follows multiple generations as they confront the growing threat of giant creatures. Kurt Russell plays the older version of Lee Shaw, while Wyatt Russell steps in as the younger version. The show has locked in a Season 2 renewal, with the next installment set to arrive on Feb. 27.

For those not in the know, Wyatt Russell initially chased a career in pro hockey before pivoting to acting. Since then, he has quietly stacked solid credits, including standout work in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Overlord. Meanwhile, Kurt Russell continues to hold veteran status in Hollywood. His legacy includes fan-favorite classics like Escape from New York and The Thing.
