According to a new report, the DCU‘s Creature Commandos Season 2 will introduce one of DC’s strongest heroes, Captain Atom. The second season of the animated series was announced in December 2024, ahead of the first season finale. As of writing, the second season has no confirmed release date or window. As well as creating the series, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn also wrote all seven episodes that were released. The series’ cast includes Indira Verma, Sean Gunn, Alan Tudyk, Zoë Chao, David Harbour, and Frank Grillo, among others.

Captain Atom said to make DCU debut in Creature Commandos Season 2

According to Nexus Point News, Captain Atom will make his DCU debut in Creature Commandos Season 2. The outlet also reported that he will serve as a recurring character, although the nature of his role is unclear. It is also currently unknown who will voice the character in the series.

The Captain Atom that will reportedly appear in the series is the Nathaniel Adam version. In the comics, Nathaniel was preceded by Charlton Comics’ Allen Adam, a rocket technician who gained powers after the special experimental rocket he was traveling in exploded and he became atomized.

The Nathaniel Adam incarnation first debuted in DC Comics in Captain Atom vol.3 #1. In the comics, Nathaniel Adam is an Air Force pilot and Vietnam War veteran who participates in a science experiment that grants him superpowers and coats his body in a metallic substance called Dilustel. However, the experiment also sends him decades into the future, where he winds up working for the U.S. government.

Captain Atom’s powers include, but are not limited to, superhuman strength, speed, flight, energy absorption, and matter generation. In addition, he is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant due to his military training.

Since his inception, Captain Atom has appeared in multiple animated DC films and television shows. He has played key roles in Justice League Unlimited, Young Justice, and Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.

At the moment, Captain Atom’s inclusion in Creature Commandos Season 2 is currently only a rumor, as James Gunn has not officially confirmed it. However, his appearance in the animated series could eventually set up his introduction in live-action DCU projects.
